Take a video tour of the Iowa City Westside Levee Pump Station with chief engineer Paul Anderson of MMS.
(Jan. 11, 2016) - The westside levee is part of Iowa City's flood mitigation efforts after the devastating flood of 2008. The levee has two pump stations, and this video is a tour of the smaller, southernmost one. The south pump station is located near the McCollister Boulevard bridge over the Iowa River. MMS' Paul Anderson was lead engineer on this project for civil engineering design. The project's total cost was $4.4 million; the south pump station was $1.1 million of that. Those pumps - with a 31-inch radius each - will move 17,000 gallons a minute through the levee to the river!
