Kalona Downtown Revitalization

Kalona was looking to invest in its downtown by creating a more pedestrian-friendly and welcoming area.  The finished project improves the pedestrian experience and safety, enhances water management and welcomes visitors to town. The sustainable street project includes storm-sewer improvements, energy-efficient lighting and ADA-compliant sidewalks. The downtown cultural experience now includes artistic quilt designs, landscaping and street furniture.

The city was awarded $1.06 million in grant money from the Washington County Riverboat Foundation.

In addition to assisting with grant applications, MMS Consultants provided a comprehensive design package for this project, including topographic and property surveys, preliminary and final design, cost estimates, construction plans and specifications, permitting, bidding services, and construction surveying and administration.
