Montezuma enlisted MMS Consultants, Inc. to help with updating the town square around the courthouse. Several concepts were considered, with the final design consisting of reconstruction of the storefront sidewalks on three sides of the square.
The completed project included PCC paving in parking spaces, PCC curb and gutter, and sidewalks with stamped, colored and conventional concrete. Decorative streetlights replaced the existing utilitarian cobra-head streetlights. Dilapidated storm-sewer structures were replaced, and new water services replaced those constructed of hazardous material. Construction was completed with minimal impact to traffic and businesses along the town square.
MMS Consultants was involved in all stages of this project. Once the city’s budget was established, the topographic survey was completed. MMS then provided the design of the streets and drainage systems, along with construction specifications and bidding documents. During construction, MMS provided staking, construction inspection and administration.
This project was challenging, as there were several commercial properties that needed to stay open during construction. Coordination between the contractor, property owners, city staff and MMS was crucial during the construction of this project.
