In 2015, the local school district was considering closing the elementary school in Riverside and building a new one on a central campus in another town. Riverside residents did not want to lose their local school, however. So the City Council,in an effort to show the district how committed the city was to keeping its school, decided to pursue a city-funded, single family residential development to spur growth near the elementary site.

A bond referendum by the school district to raise the money to build a new elementary was voted down that fall, and the City of Riverside moved forward with its plans to develop the area.

Cherry-Lane.slider.Square.jpgThat same year, the City of Riverside hired MMS Consultants, Inc. to provide municipal engineering services. The Cherry Lane Addition was one of the earliest projects with which MMS was tasked.

Riverside already owned land north of Buckeye Lane that was intended for a new community center. The city collaborated with a nearby property owner to acquire some additional lots and street right of way, and MMS designed the 16-lot subdivision. Services MMS provided include surveying, zoning facilitation, preliminary and final plats, engineering design (grading, sanitary sewer, storm sewer, water main and paving plans), permitting, bid letting, construction staking, and construction administration and inspection.
