Beginning fall 2024, sixth grade students in the Iowa City Community School District will be moved out of elementary schools and into area junior high schools. The $34 million project was approved by the Iowa City school board in 2022. The funding was provided by previously approved sales and property taxes.
With the addition of 300-400 students to each junior high, ICCSD needed extra classrooms and facilities, so MMS was tasked with helping the school district plan for the expansion to all three schools. For all three schools, MMS planned the new parking arrangement, as well as reorganizing utilities, stormwater, wastewater, and more.
